Default Mazda GTX Build

This thread will be updated durning the build so stay tuned.

Well i'm helping my buddy rebuild his J-spec Mazda BP 1.8L Turbo engine and install it in his 88 GTX. Parts are slowly coming in. Over $5k in engine parts are coming in. Here the fist shipment of many.
Wiseco Pistons Kit and C.A.T. Connecting Rods

here's the engine pic was taken when it was in his 95 Escort GT

And here's the GTX which we will be installing the J-spec engine and transmission

I'll keep you all posted

Update: on 05-14-08
Well today we remove the stock 1.6L turbo engine and transmission. Little said note both engine and chassic have 87k miles. My cam had low battery so i didn't take alot of pictures of the removel

There's the reason for the build. The stock transmission will never handle high horsepower and lucky us the diff gave out. We opened up the stock tranny to find that the planetary gears inside the diff and the inner ring gear didn't play nice and broke some teeth. Here's couple of pictures of the damaged

mmmmmm metal shavings

We also took apart the j-spec 1.8L turbo engine to get it ready for the machine shop. We found #1 piston exhaust side melted alittle. Of course we never babied the engine. Cylinder walls look good but we'll see what the machine shop says.

New Ford Racing crank, ARP head stubs, Gates Performance Blue Timing Belt, and SSR cam gears came in today. Sorry no picture of them, cam died. So the block, crank, pistons, rods, flywheel and all the bearings and bolts are going to the machine shop tomorrow. They are going to put the bottom half together. Still waiting for CorkSport Performance cylinder head filled w/ over sized valves, turbo cams, springs, and everything put together ready to bolt on. Will keep you all up dated.

That is going to be awesome when you get it all done. This is right up my ally. I have a good friend that has a GTX in his escort, another buddy that is in the process of putting one in. What are are you putting this in?

Wow nice, That is the exact engine that is going in my stiva. What importer did you/your buddy use to get the motor I'm having trouble finding a reputable one.
Any advice?

Thats gonna be one hell of a motor when done. What you hp/tq goal? Keeping the stock turbo size?
Good luck with the build, I will be sure to keep a watch on this build.

I know that it is. He had a GTX engine and ran a 12.

For the guy that asked where to get one, if you are on the west coast then try corksport in OR.

GTR was 210
gtx was 175 i thought at flywheel

EW went shopping at a Jspec shop here that had 2 GTX motors. well one was a GTR and its in a 2 door escort wagon. (with MX-3 dash)

Now sporting MSP LSD.

Love the swap. didnt he just get the GTX. and has the drifter front end on his escort? He was askign around about what to do. Glad he is going with the GT motor over building a 1.6
looking good!
