Yup, definitely ballsy!

So far it hasn't given me any reason to question my purchase. It is nice having that power there, but at the same time, it has more power than I'll probably ever use.

Nice bike. But if you are truly trying to be as safe as possibe, you will be buying something more than a long sleeve shirt.

oh...don't start poking with sticks, buddy......

If you'd go full leathers in summer here in Texas, you're a brave guy....or a moron.....I'm not sure which.

We've already had over 7 weeks of 98, 99 and 100+ degree weather here.....and no way in hell could I wear a jacket right now.

I have a very thick overshirt that I wear that is quite visible.....and still allows the wind to cool my body down.

...I've owned one for 2 years, BADASS bike! Once you're used to it, its like a heavier crotch rocket that doesn't handle QUITE as well! Enjoy...

I would never wear leather either. A nice mesh jacket will breathe better than a thick overshirt. And protect you better. I don't wish accidents on anybody, and I know skin grows back. But why take the chance?

Great! I have a new license plate for you then: SKN DONR

Seriously, you really think a tshirt will help you if you go down at any speed above 30mph?

There are a ton of highly ventilated mesh jackets out there with CE armor in the right spots.

Here's one for $100: http://store.dsrpowersports.com/20aimeja.html

And it even comes in white so you don't get a lot of heatsoak w/ black fabric.

Here's one that even comes in silver (so u match )

I wear a T-shirt if im cruising around town, because my HD leather "race" jacket gets wicked hot sitting in traffic even with the vents open....

If im going for a ride through twisties I definitely wear my jacket and gloves... I really should get a mesh jacket like Kris linked for around town because I know if I ever get hit by someone its going to hurt like a bitch when I hit the pavement but I can't find any I like. They're all covered in reflectors and only have elbow and shoulder pads but if you slide on your chest, you're still screwed...Oh, and riding with a back protect in a jacket sucks nuts too, like a 2x4 on your spine..

Don't be the guy that goes down onto to the 'belt sander'... Kris is right. Get a good, severe abrasion-resistant lightweighty jackety.

Whoops. Posted too late. Forgive me.

Bike looks fantastic! A bit different than the Sportys of old...

And your Focus: Clean and tasty.

Shift makes some nice 'undercover' stuff, and so does Alpinestars.

A friend of mine was cut off in 30mph traffic on the 405 wearing a Joe Rocket textile jacket and jeans, went over the bars, landed, slid - walked away. No road rash, just some bruising. Imagine if he'd been wearing just a tshirt?

I'm going to take a look at the options Kris. I know what road rash is and I've seen it before......and I know it's no fun getting the pebbles out that got imbedded in the skin.....

Please don't think that I'm blowing off any advice for protecting my body, it's just that with what I'm doing with the bike right now, I'm not needing that kind of protection.

The speedlimits are very low (very rarely do I even get to 40 mph) and I only ride about 5 miles one way.

Here are some lessons I learned:

- Even if it's 120 degrees you shouldn't take any part of your protection off. Two minutes before the accident I took down the top half of my Aerostich one-piece. I have awesome road rash to show for this.

- If you are nice to the paramedics they will let you show them how to take your suit off instead of cutting it off of you.

- The hospital's instructions for road rash may be woefully out of date, you can find much better directions on the Internet (I liked this one: http://www.teamintraining.org/chapte...oadrashabc.pdf)

- Get the best insurance you can afford. Note that "afford" means "can I afford to not have this bike anymore and not have anything to show for it?" When I re-entered the US a week ago I was fairly broke and just chose liability. Now I'm at the whim of the other party's insurance, who may or may not try to screw me.

- High boots will save your legs. My left leg is tender and sore as all hell but the doctors were very confused as to why that leg wasn't broken. Then they saw my boots... (Sidi Crossfire TA)

- Think twice about riding Fridays between 3 and 6pm. This is when my accident happened and the time frame during which more accidents happen than any other time of the week. If you do ride during this time frame be more vigilant than usual.

Pics of roadrash from this accident:

I usually tell whoever calls me stupid when I'm not wearing gear that I'd rather if some ******* hits me it better kill me because I don't want to spend the rest of my life in prison

I think everyone on a bike realizes if we go down we're screwed... Just like some chose not to wear helmets. Suggestions show that others care about our safety, but our minds are usually already made up.

fair enough, and I respect those choices. My response to Dave was his weak justifications on why he doesn't want to wear gear.

If you don't want to, you don't want to...but don't come up with some bull**** excuse like you aren't stunting or speeding to make yourself feel better about your choices.

I've had a moto license for almost 15 years and have been riding pillion since I was three. I didn't wear any gear (except a helmet because it was the law in my state) until my mid twenties. Then, as my friends and cohorts starting going down one by one and coming up with missing skin and mangled bodies, I decided I'd pressed my luck long enough and suited up. (and very very few of these accidents were ever the fault of the rider, or even avoidable)

Still it's an individual decision to make, and I won't bash anyone for making a choice I don't necessarily agree with. I will only make sure that it won't be through lack of accurate information that the person is choosing to not wear gear.

I've seen worse road rash from cycling accidents at speeds below 20mph. That guy was lucky!

But it's your skin, do what you want to.

I always shake my head when I see guys in town on bikes with a helmet on, and no other protective gear (most often just shorts, a tshirt or a hoodie, and sneakers that don't cover the ankle).

Not trying to be an ass but I don't know if Dave wants his thread to turn into one about whether he should wear gear or not... He made the thread to celebrate the new bike, lets try to keep it on that path.

Please keep comments on track with his bike, unless he tells me to shut up and that I'm wrong after this post
