Default another car for stolle to criticize (56k noobs)

so, I had been thinking about it for a while, and I finally did it.

first, the car looked like this:

then I figured I wanted to paint the whole car flat black, swap out for big doors/big bumpers, etc. So I sanded it, here the entire car is ready for paint

and then I thought about it for a while, and scrapped the ENTIRE car being flat black, and of course encouraged by some people on here and various VW boards, I did it

day 1 of the work

finished

sprayed

soaking in

washed

the car is still a massive tragedy because I still need to source some sideskirts for the fenders I have, and big doors/bumpers, then the entire car can be painted.

but... ftw!

I don't understand this rust looking trend. I think you should have gone with flat black.

lols.

and hey, it's only gonna cost me about $200 to get all the correct body panels I want, then my brother is a car painter, meaning I get the whole car flat blacked for about $300. so really, this isn't going to cost6 $12,000, and still be a tradegy, noob!

HAHA...nice...

Can't wait to see you get yours fineshed. I actually sold mine acouple weeks back sadly...

We could have traded parts if only I kept mine...

You should also do a Single Round grille and headlight or a Westmoreland front end...then....yeah, this is gonna start rolling into a money pit if I keep up...maybe it was a good thing I sold mine...LOL

Did you stain the hood?

Why not actually do the strip to bare metal/actual rust route?

Otherwise, I can't wait to see it when it's done, if it's going to look like that black car. You know, Valspar has a flat 'tractor' green too, that would be pretty sick lol

No, its rusting...just the solvent he used is'nt bedded into the metal yet. It will be rusty when done...

And Lorne, I agree, I like the Badgeless Aero grille. Mine had a OEM Aero grille, I kinda liked it. But I love the Single round, it reminds me of the Mk1...

since I'm a newb with it, am I supposed to leave the solvent on it and not wash it off? because I left it on for 20 mins or so then washed it off

forgive the cluelessness, but where is the appeal in having willingly rusted body panels?

It is just some random fun.

Cars carry all sorts of different appeals to different people.... sort of like big chrome wheels. I just can't see the appeal in big hunks of round chrome bolted to a hub.... but it is as popular as ever.

Its kinda of like the owner saying " hey I know my car is the ****, heck I can rock any kind of body finish on it"
