I had a few helpers! i know you can do it in big sheets, that's how i did the doors and the rear quarters. i was less concerned about how it looked rather more concerned about how well it worked. doing it in tiles made it easier to install and rolled flat over the hundreds of curves and structural unitbody stamped ridges. i'd love too see Bernie do it nicely in on big sheet... i mean we ALLLLLLLLLL know Bernie is like the absolute god at everything when it comes to cars!

this is a compilation of posts from another forum...
Did the headliner the other today with the help of a friend and we started with the plaid... even though we let the glue tack up before laying it down the glue managed to seep right through the fabric and looked like absolute ****... i guess i'd need a thicker fabric to do it as this stuff was super thing and basically like bed sheet thickness... oh well, $25 down the drain there. so we tore it off and went to the suede... not the worlds best job but good enough for now, hell of a step up from the big stained headliner that was there before... there are a few bubbles and a few wrinkles but for right now, it will work fine. they are all in fairly inconspicuous areas and i can do a better job on the next one over the winter. i learned a lot of little tricks that should make the next one look a lot better. i'm going to steam the **** out of the next one in all the areas where there are lots of compound curve to get the suede to stretch and relax.... now all i have to do is find some black "holy-****" handles and visor hardware to complete the look! ok so i got the interior all back together with the help of my GF, my dad and one of my buddies over the past 2 days. all of the pillars are now sueded as well. however i'm completely not impressed with how the B-pillars turned out... they look like ****! Due to all the tight radius compound curves there are some really ugly wrinkles and even some glue seep-through areas. i didn't want to put darts in but i guess i'll have to on the b-pillars as there is not other way to make it look even remotely clean! i also ran out of suede so i had to just hustle them together and couldn't too the door cards. i'll get new pillers from the junk yard on wednesday and some more suede and do them differently! As soon as i got the interior back together i had to drop the GF off at work then came home and my dad and I went to work on the sub box... we built the actual box and base plate yesterday. Today had to modify the box so it sat properly in the tire well. cut out the base plate so the box sat into it properly. then went on to building the risers, little smugglers box and the rest so i could put the false floor in tomorrow. the whole floor will be 5.75" higher than stock to accommodate all the stereo gear. all finished.... I'm missing a final wiring pics but it's nice and neat don't worry! ![]() this thing POUNDS! Sounds super clear and from outside it's extremely quiet! no funky buzz from any of the panels either. I'm very happy with how the stereo turned out. until i scoop the deck out of the Porsche, i stole the deck out of my silver Focus as it has dual pre-outs and has an AUX-IN so i can plug in my ipod and control everything through the ipod too! Much better than the new highspeed deck controlled units! just need to get my hands on some tires to put on those wheels and all the bumpers painted... the Euro parts from the UK should ship Friday too!

Very awesome! Helluva job so far! Did you have any issues witht he headliner attracting too much dirt/dust during the install? or is it rather low maintenance?

The headliner and pillars look GREAT! Can't tell there is anything wrong with them in the pics. I've been struggling trying to figure out how to cover the a-pillars and avoid wrinkles myself. Tough piece to cover with the contours it has towards the windshield. Box looks great as well....I like the little trap door storage area. Is there an easy way to access the stereo stuff or is the top just screwed/bolted down?
Keep up the great work and the updates!

the A and C pillars were easy compared to the B pillars. you just have to spray glue and stretch and put in a couple of relief cuts and stretch some more until you can fold it over.
you cannot see the issues in the pics but i assure you, you can see them in persona dn on the B pillars.... they look like sh*t! as for the stereo box, the screws are exposed so all you have to do is remove 16 screws in the main plate and it comes right out!. i'm going to cover the inside of the smugglers box in carpeting as well, i just ran out... so that's another project for another day. with the car off the road for a little over a week, i really just need to enjoy driving it. Thanks to: My Dad James Mo Preet(gf)

Wow, I never thought of covering the A, B, and C pillars in suede, but I like that
My new car has a grey headliner so I'm sure that one of these days I'll yank it out and recover it, especially since I have experience with already doing it once before I know EXACTLY what you mean about it taking a long while to get it perfect though.PS, I absolutely LOVE that stereo setup ![]() -Brian

a couple minor changes....
wired up a cigarette outlet into the smugglers box to charge my trouble light without having to do it off the dash along with adding in some carpeting into the smugglers box and affixing it only to the sides so i can be removed easily if needed. also added some polyfill to the void around the sub box under the baseplate and a little into the sub box... base definitely sounds a bit better! also added in a few little D-rings to mount cargo nets to to keep things from rolling around in the trunk. they are pretty flimsy but were only $6 for 12 d-rings so as a tester they will work until i can locate some beefier ones. all this and then i ran out to get my passport in richmond and the ****ing fuel pump died on me at the corner of Russ Baker and Miller road heading out to Alderbridge way! had to get it towed to my buddies shop to do the pump as i need a hoist, he's also doing a few other small things. Normally i'd be doing that work but post-surgery i'm not allowed to do anything strenuous as not to aggravate or prolong my time off work! Upside is it's getting a SVT Focus fuel pump which is the highest flowing pump and one alone will support 500fwhp!

Great job on the interior and sub install. Have you considered using the Krylon spray for plastics for the oh s*** handles?

Great job with both projects! That headline is tasty, and the stashed stereo and hatch look factory fresh!

right now i'm leaving those due to laziness. most likely i'll paint the bases and get the handles covered in more suede down the road as well as the sun visors will get a similar treatment! at this point, its not a priority for me with the winter coming up, they'll just get thrashed up and i'll have to do them again!
next on the list of things to do is start modifying the euro bumpers before they go off for paint!!

a small update:
As i replaced the deck in the 930 the old alpine deck made it's way into this car. it's from 2001 and is a CDA-7873, added in a 3rd rca cable and did a little rewiring at the amps and got a much cleaner signal to everything... the deck made a big difference in the sound of the stereo! Still doesn't sound anywhere near as clean nor as loud as the Porsche but still sounds pretty good! ![]() I also swapped the skanky fo-st170s over to the silver car and the mint HID ST170s back to the Yellow car. found some sketchy wiring that will need to be cleaned up when the weather gets a little nicer or there's space in the garage for a day or 2. i'm picking up a set of stock headlights so i can try to rebuild the sh*tstorm Konafocuswrc made of what once were a nice set of headlights! ![]() now... before and no that's not fog, it's a chemical burn or something on the inside of the housing!?

Impressive, I'll be watching for what comes next! How is the head liner holding up? I've wanted to do something similar to completely blackout my interior for a while... I've never liked the light colored ceiling/sides in the car.
What kind of vibrations are you getting from the buried sub?

lol, good vibrations.... i may go so far as to say great!
![]() i do not notice any odd harmonics, resonance or vibrations anywhere on the car from the sub even at full volume with is louder than one can take inside the car! headliner and pillars are holding up just fine. i figure if it holds up through our super rainy winter, it will last for a while.

Very interesting car and nice work. I really like what you're doing with it. Luck on the recovery by the way.....

just added in the matching pics to the last update!
actually once the euro bits are in and on along with the wheels i already have waiting for tires, that's pretty much how she'll stay aside from changing the wheels every year or 2. if the engine takes a dump on me i'll probably drop in a 3L and rebuild the tranny with a FR LSD but beyond that happening there's nothing else on the docket and she's here to drive!
