OK I've heard several folks saying the DPFE sensor is causing the stumble/hesitation. My dealer has one in stock for $67. I'm willing to buy it and install it myself to avoid the down time and hassle from the service dept. Problem- I don't have a clue where it goes or what it does. Can someone enlighten me. Is this something I can do, is there a way to check the one that's on the car?
Thanks |

Look for this thing located on the firewall just next to the brake/clutch fluid reservoir:

Well I took a $67 gamble and it came out a tie. I replaced the DPFE thingie and I still have the light throttle (40 in 4th) stumble. It did fix the 'misfire' between 4500 & 6000 rpm. There used to be two distinct spots where it felt like it was cutting a cylinder, that's gone.
Even though it cost me some $$ I didn't have to go thru another "Experience" with the service dept and go without the car for a couple days. I can't say to go out and order this thing, but I've blown $$ more than that for less. I can't believe ford isn't paying more attention to this issue. |

If I was a company I'd be concerned if one of my customers felt the need to buy and install a part himself just to avoid dealing with my representatives. That's pretty bad.

Read through that service bulletin (above link) again: notice it said the recommended service was replacing the EGR valve, NOT the DPFE sensor. Also mentioned was cleaning the metering orifice in the intake below the EGR valve. One thing we agree on: almost anything that allows you to avoid the dealer is a good deal

ZX3er, too early to tell. I certainly hope so, I'm lucky to get 21mpg in town, and that's w/o AC. It feels smoother under acceleration, although like I said earlier the light throttle (40mph in 4th) stumble is still there, doesn't feel quite as bad, but it is still there.
Silver, you pointed that out too late for me. I did read it but obviously not well enough, my bad. I can't explain why it feels different, it just does (?) But it certainly ain't the fix I was hoping it would be. |

just thought i would bump this topic... i know it's old, but i was thinking of doing the same thing, cause i really hate taking my car into the dealer. anyone know where i can buy one? other than the dealer, like maybe parts.com, but i dont know the part#. and should i just go ahead and do the egr thingie also? i am starting to get some of the symptoms others have with the failed dpfe.
