Default Blew my tranni linkage...i think?

Tonight, when i shifted to 2nd kinda hard, i heard a nice pop snapping noise and the shifter just moved freely.....the car was still in first, pulled over, the shifter just moves from 1st to 2nd with absolutely no resistance like its not connected...call roadside and had it towed to my house...monday ill have it towed to the dealer, I'm praying they won't give me any hassles about my car being lightly modded.....i do have a short shifter i got from steeda and had them install it so maybe if they make a problem about the shifter, they'll take into consideration it was done by steeda and hopefully fix whatever is wrong...

i also have a black iceman, esslinger udp and diablo chip...would it madder if i leave it on there? i mean, they shouldn't even come accross it, right?

What do you all think about the situation?

at least they can do the backseat recall while I'm there

If its linkage related you are guaranteed that Ford will say the shifter caused it. Did Steeda give you a warranty? I'd call them 1st before taking it in to the dealer.

I pulled out the chip today...taqking it in tomorrow...i figure since i have the stock shift knob on there they might not even notice its a short shifter and maybe they'll just fix it

wish me luck

I had mine in for a quick check on my tranny, and the tech that was with me complimented on how my car shifted. Said he wished they all drove like that I just told him i put the B&M knob on, and they didn't give me a hard time about it. The best thing is that the B&M is a quality piece, and looks a lot like the stock one, just a little shorter. They probably will never know to look and see if there's a ford part number on it. Don't worry.

Seriously, thanks alot for the reassurance, helps alot....I'm soooo nervous about it but that made me feel better because that is what i thought but the reassurance helps....now I'm going to be scared as sh*t at the track or anywhere shifting hard....well, they should do the backseat recall work at the same time so hopefully i get my car back right away with no charge from the dealer with the recall work done so maybe some good will come out of this...I'll let everyone know what happens

not that this is a bad thing, but my dealer is pretty stupid in terms of warranty work. If I mix stuff with recalls I usually get it for free... one time I hit my fence and took the outside mirror off. Brought it in with a recall and they never charged me (i think it was like $90) so maybe you'll get lucky

The car went to the dealer today, they checked it out and put it on the lift, blah blah blah....they said they need to order a part and it'll be done tomorrow....ford gave me a rental car from the dealer accross the street....a red 4 door LX auto SPI what a hunk of crap...i feel back for those guess in the SPI forum, hehe
they are doing the warranty work too....hopefully they jsut fix my car by tomorrow and don't say a word about the shifter

i talked to the dealer today, they are temprarily fixing it with an aftermarket piece but i have to go back in a week to fix it with a OEM ford part....this kinda sucks thought cuz they told my dad that the shifter and assembly needs to be replaced...that means theyll be taknig out my B&M and puting a stock one back in, just great....and then what should i do, get another B&M? or leave the stock one, Im kinda scared of another B&M but i like the short throw and i'm used to it

damn, i hate things like this
there goes the $230 installed i paid for the shifter

There was TSB sometime ago about shifter linkage problems WITH the stock unit. Since you are the 1st person I know of with this problem w/the B&M, I find it highly unlikely that its the B&M thats the problem. I'd have them fix it, then take the B&M back to Steeda and have them make it right. They have a rep to consider and you have 2600+ friends here to ruin it with...

Well what I was thinking was to wait till the dealer finishes my work and then as for the stock parts back cuz if i ask now, thye might relize its a short shifter and bs me about fixing it
I'll either just ask after its fixed or just take the loss and be happy they even fixed it under warranty

Read your warranty paper work, "You are not entitled the original parts back." If they replace the shifter, they are obligated to send all "defective" parts back as per Ford. If the shifter is messed up, then B&M should waranty it. But if the dealer replaces it, You will never see your B&M shifter again!

Just thought you'd like to know that.

Oh yeah, FYI, if the dealer does replace it, they will notice it is aftermarket while installing the new one and you will be charged back all previous labor!

Thanks noresull for the info, I'm glad you pointed that out to me before i even asked at the dealer
I think I shouldn't complain and take the $230 i paid for the shifter installed as a little loss and deal with it, i'm glad the dealer fixed it and everything
I don't think I'll be puting another B&M on there..i'm going to see if the stock shifter slows me down or if its really annoying cuz i got soooo used to the B&M can't imagine something different, if i can deal with the shifter, i will leave it stock

thanks to everyone for the info

This exact same thing just happened to me I'm stuck in 4th gear. Off to the dealer tomorrow.

Does anyone have any info on the TSB? I want to go in there armed.
