I have had bad luck with my focus, whether it being the recalls or what not. First i had a very loud idle that sound like something was rattling when i just got the car, also i noticed when accelerating anything below 2500 rpm there is this nasty tin noise . so i figured when i changed up my catback exhaust it would dissapear. it didnt. and they lovely guys at ford once again were dicks to me and told me that they would charge me for everything when they find that is from the cat back. but it has to be from the cat foward. any ideas what it could be . after 2500 rpm it quites down.

it's probably exhaust resonance rattling the heat shield around your exhaust. Just a thought. My Vibrant used to rattle it a little, but nothing extreme.

I get that rattle while accelerating below 2500rpm .. I thought that was standard issue from the focus.
It's definatly not coming from the exhaust .. it's in the engine .. someone said it was valve clatter or something. |

yea its definatly from the cat foward , because i got that noise before i had changed the exhuast. do you ever get it fixed because it sounds so crappy, i need to accelerate real fast to avoid it.

If you have a manual, it could be your transmission. What exactly does it sound like?

I get a noise like this also, but it goes away after the car warms up completely. Nothing really major, just a little annoying for a few minutes...
I also had a similar noise on my Thunderbird, a lot louder though, and that was a heatshield issue. |

It is standard with the 5-speed Focus. A lot of people on this site have the same problem. Some also come with a nice stumble-hasitation at about 30 to 50 mph.

Had an idle rattle on my SE, turned out to be the radiator/fan assembly. At first the dealer tried to blame it on my CAI, but when it did it agaim, I called on my cell and held the phone down by the noise. I told them that it was the radiator to start with, but they must have assumed I was just some dumbass who doesn't know jack about cars.

My brand new ZX3 has this noise. It sounds like something in valves. It reminded me of a golf. You hear it under acceleration but not WOT right? It is just for a few seconds as you pull forward in first, right before the engine starts to really pull. I am pretty sure I heard this in all foci I drove.

I have the same problem.. its VERY annoying and it usually happens to me when I first go forward on 1st gear and usually on low rpm in 2nd also ..
I just thinkit sounds so damn cheap.. like the transmission is gonna drop dead in a second or two.. I get goosebumps everytime I hear that sound, it hurts me stomach Did anyone ever go see ford about it? would they do anything about it? (im completly stock btw) caus i really really don't like that sound |

Sounds like some of you guys are having pre detenation (pinging) problems. Try using some higher octane gas and see if it goes away. If the noise does go away then I would stay with the higher octane gas. Pinging is bad.

My girlfriend just bought an '02 Mercury Cougar and its making the same noise. However I'm pretty sure its clutch or transmission. It always makes the sound at low rpm durring acceleration and is barely audible at idle w/ clutch pedal released. Check this out: http://www.svtownersassociation.com/...p?t=4865&pp=40
A little over half way, or do a page search on TRANSAXLE NOISE AT IDLE . Anybody solve this issue? Vehicles making the noise still running 100%? |
