correct me if I'm wrong, but the Focus doesn't have a distributor.
I spray mine off, and degrease. I just cover up my filter. steve.. |

As Linda said, just spray Simple Green on the engine (it's cheaper and less harsh than degreaser and works just as well). If you have an external aftermarket intake filter, just wrap it in a plastic grocery bag. Try not to hit any of the wires with a direct hit from the hose...sometimes you can knock them off doing that. I wash my engine bay about every other week and I don't cover the coil and it starts fine. If you do manage to get a little moisture under the plug boots, just wipe them off. Don't let the engine run crappy till the heat clears the boots; we could do that on older engines but on this one the CEL has a bad habit of coming on if the coil misfires to much, plus it's hard on the Cat. If you clean it regularly, you won't have to use heavy water pressure and worry about knocking something loose. I generally recommend running the engine for about 10 mintues after a wash job just to drive out water and moisture from all the little places it can collect. Good luck. Quite a few months ago....Bobby recommended using Simple Green and it's been used on my engine area ever since...
Just spray it on....and let it do it's thing, and then just wipe off... if it's really dirty, repeat.... maybe scrub and rinse...covering up the wires.... hope this helped. mom linda |

Damn! I smell a g2g! You should let us know when the next one is. I know the Hooters on Palm Beach Lakes blvd. over here hasn't had a car wash, wonder why? I may have to suggest that.

I also clean my engine w/ simple green (thanks Bobby), but I leave the car running.
I've never knocked a wire off or covered the coil nor has it ever stumbled. Maybe I've just been lucky so far... |

I'm resurrecting this topic..
I cleaned my engine this weekend, covered all the stuff mentioned above, and my car is currently at the dealership cause my speedometer cut out, then my odometer, and now my check engine light is on.. could just be a coincedence, but I think I screwed something up. It worked fine all yesterday and early this morning after i cleaned it, but when i went out running errands today, things just went bad. I'll keep ya posted on wtf happened. |
