Hey guys I can't find the DPFE on my 2003 SVT. Is it located somewhere different than on regular foci? Its not on the firewall. I have the part and if I could just find where it is under the hood I could do it myself. Thanks.

I had mine re-done last year. But the car is actling like it would need to be done again. Any ideas how long those last, it seems like that it shouldnt be the problem, but the car has trouble accelerating past 4k rpm (stutters.) Maybe a fuel pump or injectors? Ideas anyone?

The DPFE issue, to me acts just like a bad O2 sensor studder.

I was actually going to replace the pre-cat O2 sensor, then I found this thread about the DPFE- the symtoms are the same. The only problem now is that my moms car has the rare 2001 sensor.

Ryan, When you say the rare one, which one do you mean? The one on the Fire Wall?

Thumbs up Re: More DPFE Sensor information (updated with photos)

AxOn,Thanks for hack#2!
I have been fighting this DPFE problem for 1 year but it wasn't til yesterday I found your Hack #2 and that fixed it.You guys are way ahead of the other Ford forums! Wish I had found you sooner.
I have an addition to your Hack #2 that will ensure we pass the "Visual Test" at Smog time and ensure the EGR passes enough exhaust gas to lower combustion temperatures enough to keep NOx below the fail threshold- I hope!
1.Instead of just moving the vacuum line from the EGR to the ref port, leave it where it is but cut it about an inch from the EVR and insert a T.Run a new stock- looking vacuum tube from the 'free' port on the T to the ref port on the new DPFE.This is a slightly larger diameter hose than the stock vac hose ,so choose your T size accordingly.
This means that when the PCM signals the EVR to send vacuum to the EGR, it does exactly that. The Dpfe works correctly because it 'sees' a pressure difference between the Ref and Hi ports. It doesn't matter if this difference is vacuum air or exhaust -it is all the same to the DPFE.The advantage is you aren't literlay burning up the new sensor with this hack variation.
2.My disguise is to re-fit the original short hoses to the EGR tubes, plug them, fit a brass T to each. Use these T's for the vac connection to the Ref port and for the
bogus one.then 2 more short hoses and re-fit the DPFE in it's (almost) original location. How the disguise is done doesn't matter as long as it looks stock and the ref port of the new DPFe 'sees' vacuum from the EVR.
I tried this yesterday on a test run & it works well -so far.
What do you think DPFE hack wizards?

Ok im a slight newb when it comes to stuff under the hood. I have been trying to find my DPFE sensor and cant located. I have a couple mods on the car so im not really sure where it might be. I have mainly a JRSC w/ BBK on 02 FSVT. So any ideas of where i can locate my sensor would be fantastic. Also are the sensors the same for the ZX3 and SVT? Thnx alot.

You don't have to worry about the DPFE:

I have the DPFE that sits behind the Spark coil, (the '01 focus), which of the two tubes do I block? Can I just uplug it?
The car is acting horrible, should I just replace it?

BTW my DPFE is 2F1E-9J460-AB

Also on your FocusHack
http://www.focushacks.com/index.php?modid=66
You might want to warn people before "YANK THAT SUCKER OFF", I just tore my tubing, so now its yet another thing I will have to replace.

bigken, you have the the same year i do. Look behind your spark coil. That is where our DPFE is at. It looks like a block with a cable coming out of the top, and two tubes coming out of the bottem. See the first page of this forum, go to the link and you can see pictures of it.

I'm a newbie here and I've perused through this thread only to be left hanging with this burning question:

How do I mount the new DPFE sensor if I am replacing a firewall-mounted one??

It was asked numerous times and the answers just left me asking more questions. It would really be cool if someone who's done it can share the info.

Thanks.

I replaced the DPFE on my '01 Focus last night. Seemed to cure the hesitation problem, and the CEL didn't come back on. Took a grand total of 20 minutes to change it. That's from when I walked out the door with the part to when I was back inside washing my hands - and including taking pics, and two trips back inside for a screwdriver and a wrench!

Here are some pics of it, since this is the non-firewall mount.

Easy instructions. You need a screwdriver and a 10mm wrench (to undo the battery terminal.) Remove the air intake tube and rotate it out of the way. Remove the hose going into the back of the valve cover and push it out of the way. Remove the electrical connector from the back of the DPFE. Pull up on the DPFE to remove. Mine was tight, but slid off with a little wigglin'. Push the new DPFE on, reconnect the plug and replace the hose and air intake tube. Done!

The replacement DPFE looked identical to the one that was on it. I called my local parts store looking for it, they told me it was a dealer only part. Called them, they had in stock, my price $62 including tax, but I used to work with them so I got a discount. Their normal price to install a DPFE was $145, parts, labor and tax!

This car runs like a scalded dog now! You kids today don't know how good you have it. When I was a teenager we had to put up with stuff like Escorts and Chevettes and Cavailiers for our 4 cyl. econo-cars! My 1983 Escort had 70hp and rode on 165/80/R13 tires! This Focus would run circles around that, and get better gas mileage while doing it!

Coincidentally, I paid $1400 for my 83 Escort 17 years ago* - which is the same as I paid for this Focus!!

Okay... here's my dilemma... have a 2001 ford focus se with zetec engine...Engine was overheating.... going into red area, so I would put car in park & rev gas ... that would send temp down... didn't sound like fans were turning on. after a bit, I took it into dealer, figuring that my extended warranty would cover the fan... but they said fans were good... not turning on, but still working. by turning on the AC it would force the fans on. oh yeah... check engine light went on, upper & lower hoses had busted days prior (got those fixed by my neighbor friend, he didn't know why engine was still very hot.... so took it into dealer, they checked it, said the fan resistors went bad (wear & tear).... so not covered under my extended warranty (seems like nothing is...) anyways.. so they fixed it, charged $130 for wiring parts & $190 labor... total $330 with tax. then they said, "okay, your CEL is still on...and code came up.. it's the EGR Tube Sensor DPFE 167 FTNT... costs like $60 for part, & $100 or so for labor" or something... doesn't need to get fixed now, only thing it affects is the emissions when you take it in for a smog.... is this right? left a little confused still, so wondering if this could be a DIY thing that I could have a mechanic guy friend of mine do...? or should I just take it in to them? help please... feel like they keep giving me the run arounds with my warranty, etc... HELP!!!

don't know if I bought a lemon or what.... just had my baby, thought I got a reliable car.. .bought it off a car lot used... within a week, had to have them redo the brakes cuz' they were shot (put on backwards), the car window went down (regulators went bad).... omg.... drama after drama....

Question Re: More DPFE Sensor information (updated with photos)

The Wifey's ZX-5 has the DPFE on the Fire wall. The one they had at Autozone looked like it but, the plug was Different.

I called the Stealership and gave them the Part # off the one I have and they say its showing "as a kit" ???

Does anyone no watts in the "KIT"?

I am assuming it would be a Plug and harness???

Thanx,
Allcruisen

I believe the 2007's lack a DPFE sensor.

If this is a 2007 and you're having this problem, why not take it to the dealership? You should be covered under warranty, no?
