also where the firewall DPFE would be located i see two rubber hoses that are cut off right at the firewall. Could that mean there once was a firewall mounted sensor?

2000 ZX3 w/77,000 miles. I'm getting the P0401 code but haven't noticed any decrease in performance or mileage. No stuttering or anything else. I've reset the light and 2 days later it came back on.
Scratch that...vacuum tube on the EGR solenoid was off Last edited by coldchill : 06-17-2008 at 07:05 PM. |

My car stumbles at about 3K rpms, especially when climbing a hill, etc. If I go full throttle or over about 3500rpms, it smooths out.
It has 135K on it, still gets 30-34mpg on the highway, and I believe it is on the original DPFE. The 'stumble' feels like the a/c kicking on and off, or a big breeze hitting the car over and over, but it is fairly subtle. Should I replace it? Thanks |

What year is your car? If its not a DPFE, it might be a fuel pump issue which is covered back a hidden recall depending on your build date for your car. Check with you dealer using your VIN. |

I have an 01 Focus Se sedan. It was surging at about 45mph. I done the Hack #1 and it stops, so I went and purchased a DPFE sensor and it still does it and I get the check engine light. I have no vacuum leaks and applyed vacuum to the EGR and it is good. i also have had the fuel pump recall done. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong with it. Does the actuator go bad also does anyone know how to check it. It seems like it only does this in warm weather because I had no problems over the winter. Thanks for any help.

Hello... I have a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 2.0L DOHC with approx 25K miles on it. yes, it's hardly been driven.. now, I have the check engine light and a mech stated the DPFE sensor was shot, I needed to replace it. After trying to follow the threads, can anyone tell me if this is the sensor? Also, where I can purchase one without relying on Ford parts and dishing out more than I need??? Thanks

That's your mass air flow sensor. I believe you'd normally see your DPFE sensor mounted on your firewall right next to the Brake Fluid Reservoir in your pics, BUT since it's not their the only other place I know of is somewhere under your air tube. Look at this thread for pics. I haven't seen that location in a while.
You can purchase one from Tousley Ford here on the forums and get it for much cheaper than you would at a dealer. They're also a dealer but they sell 10% over cost to Focaljet members. Wonderful guys to deal with.

Ahh.. I wasn't sure. When the mech pointed it out it was the circular sucker toward the back...but it didn't look anything like what's out now for the sensor. I walked my butt to the dealer on 11th in Manhattan, NY...yeah, don't want to spend $80+ for it... thanks

Frick! The F**...ay.. ok.. I think what I just posted is the EVR. I've been attempting to google diagrams and so far, unless my ford isn't equipped with one, the dpfe is NOT in its usual place.. apparently my dpfe would be bolted just above the EVR but ALAS...it's not.. someone? anyone?

I also have the same DPFE sensor located directly over the EGR pipes. I scooped up a replacement one at Pep Boys for $36, have removed the air intake tube and moved the other tube leading into the valve cover. The old sensor is now disconnected from the wire harness but I'll be damned if I can't get the sensor to seperate from the tubes. I've given it about an hour of attempts at pulling it up out of the tubes but it's jammed in there good. Any suggestions on coaxing that sucker out of there?

rendog13, do you have a 2002 focus? I actually called Tousley and was told it would be near the trottle body.. I No See Nutin.
Photo belongs to someone on this site in a different thread, just borrowing it for informational purposes.. So then...say this was my 2002 ZX3, and that dpfe on the firewall ..erase it, not there... Can someone point out..hell...take the pic, add some arrows and label DPFE, and repost it on here...please!! The insanity.. vbmenu_register("postmenu_6654718", true); |
