Default Acc. belt help...

Ok, so alternator was bad (had it tested), and when changeing the alt. I noticed that there was a large torn up spot on the acc belt, so since I had the alt out, I bought a new belt. Alt went in, tried to put the gatorback acc belt on, and it was about an inch too long (it fit on everything, but was really loose, didn't even have to move the tensioner to get it on.

took that belt back, bought the next size down of gatorback belts, and that was about and inch and a half shorter then the stock one. went back again and bought the cheaper duralast belt, in the store it seemed to be the same as the stock one. got home, put that belt on but still it doesn't seem to fit, I've pulled back as far as I can on the tensioner, and it's still not slipping over it.

I've tried gatorback p/n 4060835, and one size down. The duralast p/n 775K6, and it's still not going on. So far the only difference (besides the length) is that my stock says 6PK2120EL all the others just say 6PK2120. The guy at the store said they don't make one with EL on it, it just goes by the first set of numbers.

It's now Sunday, it took me all day saturday just to get the alternator out, and now it' looks like I'm missing work tomorrow because I won't be getting there... can anyone please offer some insight on this one? do you know if that's the correct P/N for an 02.5 focus w/ ac??? thought the alternator was going to be the pita for this one, but no such luck...

***EDIT***
ok, on a whim, I checked autozone's site for a 2003 focus and it lists different P/N's for the belts... would it be safe to assume that these would be the right part numbers for a 2002.5 focus???
Gatorback 4060827
Duralast 827K6

I've checked that 3 times, with 3 different diagrams... the haynes, focushacks, and myfordfocus.com. all are showing I've got it right. the gatorback was about a 1/2"-1" too long, had about a 1/4" gap on the alt. if I pulled it taught...

I'm starting to wonder about the 02.5/03 part number difference.

yup, thats the same belt I had earlier this morning. It's a DOHC w/ac. it's a 2002.5 (made after april 2002, I know they changed somethings, but not sure what all was changed so I don't know if the belts affected by it.) so I'm not sure if I should go get the 2003 belt and try that one... there are different part numbers listed for each year...

If this helps, #406827 is 82.7" long, 775K6 is 77.5" long. That is a total length (circumference), not diameter. The "06" means 6 ribs.

Just go to Autozone and tell them you need PN 406???.

Go to http://goldcoastautomotive.com/cgi-b...motive&pc=1426. You will find another belt diagram, just to verify.

I hope this helps.

Is your tensioner frozen? If it's locked after you moved it to remove the old belt it wont apply tension for the new belt. Mine was frozen solid when I did my alt.

I don' think so, I can move the tensioner back, to release the tension on the would be belt. But when I relaxed it, there's not enough tension on the belt to keep it on the pullies.

Thank you! I was trying to find out what the numbers were in relation to the partnumber. now if I could just find out how long the belt is suppose to be... hopefully I'll figure this out. Thanks for all the help.

ok... from ford's site (motorcraft) it gives JK6-842A which it lists as 84 2/8" for a 2002 ford focus w/ac. For the 2003 focus it lists JK6-835F (83 5/8") & JK6-842A (84 2/8")

NAPA, Autozone, Oriley's lists either 83.5" or 82.7" for 2002 or 2003 focus. both for a ZETEC engine with A/C.

I think I'm just going to buy all 3 sizes and try them all again. Hope this will get the car started... works gonna be mad at me...

Got home pretty late last night, and couldn't go get all three belts. I've checked the routing of the belt against all the pics and charts I can find and it looks right.

I tried to leave the belt off each pully I could put the belt on after the tensioner, and it still won't go on. Only belt I tried last night was the duralast 6k835. and I had the tensioner pushed as far up as I could, and it still seems like it's still too short. I'm about to just give up and tow this damn thing somewhere...

went to autozone and the next size they had was 845, but that went on and is tight with the tensioner on. battery needed to be jumped, but after that, the car runs, but throws DTC P1246.....

Make sure you plugged that little harness into the new alternator.

I'll have to double check that tonight, thought I got everything plugged up, but I guess I could have missed it, Still have n't put the coolant tank, and power steering resivours back in place yet, was just excited to get the car to turn over on its own after a jump...

Ok, found a wire that wasnt' connected. Connected that, jumped the car, it started right after the jump. Took the car around the block, and it was running strong, seemed to be all taken care of after that loose wire.

Waited 4-5 hours, car started right up after that as well. Killed the car, and went to bed. Woke up this morning, cleaned the house, tried to start the car, and it wouldn't even turn over. The battery is drained. I can jump it, but I don't think it's holding a charge now. about to go to autozone and have them check it...

any thoughts on that one? when the car's running it's got 14.8 at the battery, if I kill it, it shows 12.5, but I'm thinking it's either not holding a charge, or something's draining it...
