Question Blower Motor Problem - not working

Well, my blower motor hasnt been working ever since i got it like a month ago.

    Here are the symptoms:
    1. No forced air, i can feel air when i drive, just not forced
    2. I noticed on settings 1,2,and 3...nothing happens but when i set it to the fourth speed, it blows the 30amp fuse under the hood.

Here is what i have done:
    1. Replaced the blown fuse
    2. Changed the blower motor switch, and then all of the controls as i found one of the plugs to be rusty.
    3. Changed the blower resistor with one from the dealer.

I am really confused about the problem.

    Got any ideas?

this could be related to the resistor on the engine fans.
have a look for the "fan resistor pack" discussions.

The original poster (OP) isn't talking about the engine fans. The OP is talking about the interior climate control fan.

I just tried to search using "interior fan" and came up with this post: http://forums.focaljet.com/team-tech...t=interior+fan

Not sure why you'd blow the resistor again...

I switched the resistor because when i checked with a test light, i had no power, but still had connectivity because the a/c was still able to work while testing it.

But i heard this interesting thought from a friend at work, he was thinking that maybe the fan might be stuck and unable to spin, and so for settings 1-3, it cannot turn, but when u turn the dial up to 4, it ups the volts to get it spinning and blows the fuse.

So now my question is, could it be the fan (saying it cannot budge) be the problem of blowing the fuse?

Im going to research a bit more on removing the blower motor to find out.

well, thats an idea. the way you present it sounds like sticky bearings.

not sure much about the bearings in the fan motor, but wouldnt you smell burning bearings and burning motor? (wires, connectors...)

maybe the motor and or bearings. interesting to think about.
i mean you know youve got load or a short with the fuse blowing like that.

So what i just recently did was pull out the blower motor and found that i could barely turn it, with a strong yank, i got the fan to move freeely. I turned it over onto the table and you can see for your self how much debree was in it. There was possible around 30 pieces of glass jamming it.

But since after installing it back, it worked great, on all speeds and in all directions. I left it run on 3 for like 4-5 minutes to see if the A/C needs to get re-charged or not, but when i got back in the car, it no longer was running, the fuses were fine, and i was getting power. Friends at my local auto part stores think i fried the motor, and should just replace it.

I hope that fixes it, and thanks for all the help guys. Wish me luck.

I don't think I've seen that much debris from a blower assembly

Well the debris is easy. most foci dont have a cabin filter.
not only would one protect your motor when kept clean, but it would allso protect your interiour surfaces and your lungs.

its a mystery to me why all cars dont have them.
it dosnt have to be lexus-hospital-quality
just keep the major junk out.

    as for the glass???
has the car been wrecked or broken into?
    airbags go off?
    crazy people with liquor bottles?
    how did that happen?

As i have been told it has been in an accident a while back, which explains the mild off set of the fenders. But yeah, the glass is from the windshield i guess, when i first took out the motor, lots of small shards fell on the floor which i rested my arm on so i got cut up pretty good. But its cool, im ordering a new blower motor from ebay from a salvage yard.

    2000 ford focus blower motor

I find $35 and free shipping is reasonable price to pay.

Maybe i should make this into a how-to on cleaning the blower motor.

That doesn't look like windshield glass to me, Thats just bizarre.

I've pulled leaves and pine needled out of blower motors but nothing like what you found.

To order from me just call 1-800-328-9552 and ask for Steve or use one of the methods below.
