Unhappy A/C problems, etc.

Here is the basic overview of my problems; Numbers 1,2, and 3 on my fan dial don't work only 4 blows air like it should. The A/C doesn't come on on 4 only 1,2, and 3. I don't know if it is a fuse thing or maybe a faulty switch but it is summer and I would like to fix this without taking it in. So if anyone has some helpful advice, please let me know.

Thanks

I don't understand the connection between the AC and the fan speed, but if your fan controller (sometimes fan switch/controller) has the resistor go open, then the first three positions will not work. The currenty flows through different amounts of resistance to control speed unless you select max (4), then the resistor is not in line with the flow, and the fan motor gets full voltage. Change the controller that will fix the fan, maybe it will help the AC function too.

dont know if this helps but last friday my a/c or fan did not come on when i rolled the control over to 4,

off and on, off and on and it began to work...

later that day i got a check engine light and the code was 1507 (idle air control)

replaced the IAC (fun) and now the a/c and fan still does not come on at 4...

but 1-3 work fine...

any thoughts?

Setting 3 is the most efficient way of cooling with the A/C on. Setting 2 isn't enough fan speed and 4 is too much speed not enough cooling. Normally setting 4 will work and 1,2,3 don't do anything. Setting 4 is a straight connection to the blower motor think of it as wide open if you will. While settings 1,2,3 go through the blower motor resistor. Maybe check the fuses or for a bad connection, but its definetly an odd problem you are having.
