Default Power in surges, CEL on, can't read code(s)

Ok, so I have had problems with my 01 zx3 since i bought it in may. After I've driven it on the highway or just run it hard for a good 15-30 min, it starts to jerk, like the power is coming in surges. to combat the problem iv found the best solution is to rev up higher before shifting, because the problem seems to come in the lower range of each gear. this has me shifting between 4 and 5 thousand rpm and the problem is still there, just less prevelent. I got along for about a month and a half before the engine light came on. I imeadiatly checked the oil, but everything was ok on that end. The light went off after a day, but came back later and hasnt gone off since. I borrowed a code reader from a friend, but when i run it, it continually says "link" and never moves on to the codes and never says error. i checked it by running it on another car and it the reader works fine.

Any suggestions?

Default Re: codes

Are you connecting it correctly? Usually there is a set procedure in how to turn on the car and the reader so it reads correctly.

Have you tried taking it to a shop for a scan?

sounds like a misfire to me, probablly ignition related. When you get a good scan I bet it comes up P0300.
