Default B-Pillar black window trim creaks

I think I've finally figured out that this persistent creak coming from the passenger side B-pillar is due to the black window trim on the outside. I think the metal is not crimped tight enough to stay perfectly clamped down, and flexes in a sharp turn, or over a bump, and makes a creaking / snapping sound. This is the vertical piece that is all the way at the front of the rear door. It just pulls off, and is held on simply by friction, with no fasteners (Bad Ford!).

Any suggestions on what to do to quiet it down? I was thinking of pulling it off, running a bead of gasket material on the inside, and slipping it back on, and hoping that the gasket material cushioned the piece enough to keep it from flexing. Any better ideas?

Never had to do that, but I think a bead of silicone gasket maker should help. You could try a slow expanding foam pastic, a quick bead and equally quick slap-back-on might give you a real nice tight fit (after trimming). Of course, you'd have to check for paint vulnerablity.

Just an update for anyone else who might have this problem. I used some ultra grey permatex, because it's low-odor / non-corrosive, to spare the paint any damage. I ran a bead down the U-shaped edge so it would sit securly on the door, and also ran a larger bead down the middle of the piece. This has eliminated the noise.
