Default 2000 focus se Overheating

My focus overheats when in town driving and is fine on the highway. I have found out that my smaller fan is not kicking on. I have tried the relay it was the smaller one to the far right r16 i think it was. Was this the right relay? Anyway still no fan coming on.I took out the heat resistor ( I think its called) that slides into the fan shroud. It looks to be a bit rough and has no continiutity going through it. Dealer wants 66 bucks for a new one but I am not sure its even the problem....Can anyone help me???

drive with the ac on in town and see if it still overheats...if it does its not the resistor pack that you pulled out of the fan. if its legit then either replace it or 'fix' it so that current can pass through it.

had this happen to my 02 zx3..here is a link to what i did to fix it before i sold it...

My car will cool down if I put the AC on 4 as the other fan kicks on. But the other fan is still not coming on.

having the ac on bypasses the resistor pack and turns on a fan. and your car wont over heat untill you can fix the resistor pack.

i was able to cruise with the ac on like 2 or 1 even, as long as it was on and it wouldn't over heat. you check your fuse's?
