My car overheats when sitting in traffic as the one fan is not kicking on. If I put my AC on it will engage the ac fan and eventually cool the engine. This is a pain especially in Canada when its cold. The other fan will SOMETIMES kick on??? I have replaced the relay and jump wired the fan and it works. It just doesnt want to kick on?? Can this be the resistor in the fan shroud??? Or a temp sensor?? Any help would be appreciated!!

More than likely it'll be the resistor pack in the fan shroud.. Replace it soon, overheating can open a whole new can of worms..
Here's a copy of my post in another thread describing what happened to my SPI when the resistor pack shorted out.. "Same thing happened to my LX a couple years ago... And of course I was stuck in bad traffic with nowhere to pull off the road and no option of stopping where I was... So I had to slowly inch my way forward while I watched coolant start to shoot out of my exhaust and the temp gauge bury itself in the red... After nearly 10 minutes of driving like this, I finally got it pulled into a gas station and shut it off, and called my buddy to get the car in his shop.. So after a full head gasket set, a head, thermostat, radiator flush, cylinder cleaning, resistor pack, cooling fan assembly (due to complete melting of the resistor housing and wires being burnt to a crisp), new spark plugs, and a good engine flush and oil change...., It was finally back on the road...."

Make sure you use Dielectric grease on the terminals. Use Dielectric grease on as many wire connections as you can.

Hi,
I didn't want open a new topic. My car is 00 Focus ZX3 146k miles. It has a problem with fans. First level doesn't work. But second level is working great. I changed resistor pack, temperature sensor but there is still problem. I checked all fans motors, they are working also when I open A/C, fans are working but the first level doesn't work. it is getting problem for my engine. Because fans start to work 109 C. It is not good thing for engine. The first level must be start at least 104 C. Please help me. I wrote this problem a lot of forums. Turkish english whatever, they couldn't find a solution. You are my last chance before go to ford dealer By the way I use Gage mode for looking water temperature. What can I do? How can I fix. Is it ECU problem or something else?Sory about english
