They are supposedly #1 rated...by who not sure. But they are very good snow tires. I would jump at them for that price. I have the pilot alpins myself.

I have them in the 14" size and like them a lot. Here in NC, we don't get a lot of real snow, just the occasional slush, and that is what the Alpins are best at. I chose these tires as they are decent in something other than just full snow and will allow my wife to get to work safely no matter what the weather. They don't plow here, and since she is emergency hospital personnel, people die if she doesn't make it. (Only a slight exageration I assure you!)

I got the Yoko Guardex 720s for a decent price from tires.com 185-70-14....I just got them on last Friday...so far so good.....no snow yet.
The Alpins are more an ice tire then snow....that is what steerred me away from them |

Arctic Alpins: I have a set mounted on its own set of steel wheels.
Pros: Excellent winter tires for ice, packed snow, wet and slushy winter roads and dry roads as well. I have not driven in deep snow (more than 2 inches), so I can't comment on that. The tires don't wear much when used in low temps. The're very quiet for winter tires; quieter than my hi perf. all season tires. Cons: More expensive than some of it's competitors. |

They definitely can't beat Blizzaks on ice, but they will last probably twice as long.
So you give up a bit of ice performance, snow performance is probably the same, and they last longer. I'd say they are a decent compromise. I would have bought them for my next set of daily driver snow tires instead of Blizzaks. |

Did you guys get 15's or 14's for your snows? I went with the logic of the tall sidewalls and narrow width both being benefical to snow traction, so I went with the 14's.

I have a pair of alpins on the wifes car. They are a great tire for winter. It has been thought all types of winter weather with not a problem. I say go for it.

Project,
I have a set on the wife's Volvo and they worked well here in the mountains. I have always been a fan of Michelin as I believe they build the best. All that siping in the tread is what does the job. Sounds like the price is good. Hope this helps. Tony D |
