I run 225/45/17 Azenis RT-615s on my SVTF. I had some slight rubbing on severe (pothole) compressions when they were new, but haven't had any issues since a few weeks of daily driving had occurred. Now they don't ever rub, on track or on severe compressions.
I also saw a post on sccaforums.com that one guy running an STS Focus got 245/40/17 Hoosiers to fit. He had aftermarket wheels to get the offset just right to make it work, but it did. That would be most welcome for next season... |

What if I want to add 17" rims on my ride which originally has 16" wheels? Would I have to reset the ECU to compensate for the changed diameter or are there tires that can accomodate the 17" rims yet still remains the same size in diameter?

Can any one help a newbi.
I have a ford focus flexifuel hgv from 2004. One like this: http://img212.imageshack.us/my.php?i...73810010yg.jpg I bought the car with 195/60-15 wheels and have now been offered a pari of snow wheels for free with the dimentions 175/70-14. Does any one know if these would fit or not? |

14's will fit any 2000-2004 Focus except an SVT because of it's larger brakes.
All 2005 Focuses have larger brakes (but not as big as the SVT's 300mm's), so 14's may not fit on these. Nobody's sure of the '05 ST as having 300mm brakes; I think they do. |

EDIT: Thanks to Z63R for pointing out that REV per MILE INFO IS INCORRECT. I am currently updating this table with the correct information. Sorry to anyone who I've inconvenienced. My original source was faulty.
In light of just having to adjust my speedo with my Xcal2 to read correctly with my new tire size, I thought I'd add a little value to this chart by adding the revolutions per mile for each tire size. I also noticed that most of the tire diameters were off by a tenth or so, and I corrected where appropriate. Also, '05s do NOT have 300mm SVT front brake rotors. THey are a unique size inbetween the SVT & <'05 NON-SVT front rotors. Tire Size ........ Diam. . In the spirit of being helpful, I've busted out the calculator and my 10 key skillz to compute revs/mile.
If you're going off of anything other than straight math, feel free to edit or remove this info. ASSumption: 5280 feet per mile. 12 inches per foot. 5280*12=63360 Circumference=Diameter*pi inches 63360/circumference = revs/mile Tire Size ........ Diam. . Now our friend gobstopper has posted yet different figures. I quote Hankook's figures for the sizes posted for the Focus (in the original [FJ]stickied post) in 16 and 17 inch diameters: Quote:

Well, I believe Gobstopper's numbers are being calculated the same way my ORIGINAL information was calculated because those numbers look to be about the same. *Note that at the time of THIS posting, I've edited about half of the numbers in my previous post, so they won't match Gobstopper's.
For my corrected info, I have been getting my numbers from TireRack's tire spec's for various tires. All of those numbers (across different brands) seem to be consistent to within a few revs of each other for any given tire size. While I trust math to give an accurate number for an unloaded, non-spinning tire... I'm more willing to trust the manufacturer's specs to correctly reflect real-world performance.

Well said, Sir. And I am by no means casting any aspersion towards gobstopper's incredible mathematical skilZ.

Falken makes an Azenis RT-615 that is 205/40r16. This would make it one of the smallest overall diameters in the list, but it has not been added. Can someone please add it?

Thanks to everyone for the handy RPM/tire size guide.
For anyone dialing in their speedo to new tires via reprogramming, the most accurate way of knowing the circumference of YOUR tires at the pressure YOU run so that you can use the supplied formula is to mark the sidewall and make a mark on the ground at the mark. Now, drive the car forward until the mark comes around again, and mark the ground. The distance between the marks is the TRUE rolling circumference. If you do it ten revolutions and divide the result by ten, it should be even more accurate. Tread thickness, the 'squirminess' of the rubber, the pressure you run, etc, can all affect the rolling circumference. On an unrelated note, I've found out that 205/40-17's just can't seem to survive Chicago potholes. I've dented two rims and seem to have broken a cord/belt internally in one of my Ecsta ASX's, so I'm moving up to 215/45's. I really wanted 225/45's, as I like how they look on WRX's, but it seems they probably would rub from what I've read on here. Denny in Aurora IL |
