I have a set of ASA JS5s 17x7 coming and i was wanting to get wider then 205 series tires.... It is possible to put 225 series tires on a 7 inch rim or sould i just get 215 series? If it is possible is there any real down side in getting a tire this wide? Will i have any problems with rubbing or anything?
Thanks, Andrew |

does the 225 correspond to the width of the tire? I'm think that 7" width is either 205 or 215...wouldn't another 10(measurement) make the tire wider and require a wider rim?

You can but you might rub a little bit. I am running with 225/45/17 winter tires right now on my SVT with stock ride and I rub only on very hard bumps and corners but it is not that bad. Just a little scrape that most people would not even notice though.

Ford used 225's on 7 on the Mustang for years, 15x7 and 16x7. I use Kumho 712's 225 year round. and 225 Ecsta to AutoX.

A 215 or 225 will fit on a 7 inch wide wheel, however, both sizes are wider than recommended for your vehicle and may rub especially if you are considering lowering the vehicle in the future. The correct 17 inch fitment would be 205/45R17.

So if i am planning on lowering my car 1.5" i should stay with 205 series tires? Is there anyone running 225 series tires with 1.5" or lower springs? if so do you have any problems with rubbing? if so how bad. I dont mind if its just a little rubbing but if its bad ill stay with 205 series tires. thanks
