Default IMPORTANT: Where can I find a 7mm allen wrench!!!!!!!!

Who do I have to kill to get a 7mm allen wrench. I've been to several Autozones and no one makes a 7mm. The sets switch from 5mm to 6mm to 8mm completely skipping 7mm. I understand that it might not be used often but they could at least give you one when you buy a pack of 9 or 13. I need to get one tonite so I can finish changing my pads and go to work tommorow. Any help would be appriciated.

look for a 7mm brake caliper socket. It's basically a socket that has a small hex head on the end. I got mine at AutoZone.

Did you buy it seprate and under that name? I just got back from Autozone and the guy made it sound like a 7mm was rare as a diamond he told me "I must be working on something strange, and I should go to Sears." And I asked the other Autozone if they sold Allen keys seperate and he said no.

I wish I had your Autozone around here. I guess I'm screwed, I've been tryig to change these pads all day, and it's been one thing after another.I'm just going to put they damn wheel back on and I'll ride the pads until they spit sparks of the rotor.

If you take a close look at the bolt head and if its like mine, it will also take a Torx. That's what I use to change my brakes. Can't remember the size but if you pick up a set, there should be one that works. I have a cheap Stanley set I picked up at Walmart.

7mm is a strange beast. some people here have found them in sets, i got mine at an industrial tool supply house (and even then i had to point out in the catalog that it actually existed, the grizzled old guy at the counter didn't believe they existed)

Dude I would lend you mine, but with the shift I work I couldn't get it to you till Wednesday. If you wait till then I'll help you put them on. If you do get to them yourself remember this, do one side at a time. Makes for a nice visual aid.

I didn't have any trouble finding one?

    http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/produ...;bidsite=CRAFT

In case the link doesn't work:

    Craftsman 7mm Hex Key

    7mm hex key.

    Sears item #00946795000
    Mfr. model #46795
Maybe you need to ask for a "Hex Key" instead of an "Allen Wrench"? Must be a name brand vs. generic name thing.

a 7mm hex socket is what you need b/c you gota torque it down.

We spent like a half hour looking through the garage tool chests to find a damn 7mm hex socket.

I had the allen key, but not the socket.

    I used a 40-something Torx to take the caliper off because I didn't have a 7mm

Yea, upon close inspection of the bolt, you can tell that it is designed to take either a Torx or a hex.
