Default My Rear Wheels are not coming off Why?

I have all the lug nuts out, the wheels off the ground, but they're not coming off. Do I just have to pry it off, because I really don't feel like scratching them up. I've never had to do the rear wheels before, but I've been through all this with the fronts and they come off real easy. Am I just forgeting to do something or are they just stuck? I feel like an idiot, but yah, please help

they're stuck. sometimes they rust to the drum. the other day i had a flat tire and couldn't for the life of me get the wheel off (rear left), no matter how and where i pounded on it.

so (and if you try this don't blame me if something bad happens) i got fed up and lowered the car with no lugnuts on that wheel, and i slowwwwwly moved the car in reverse for about 2 feet, til i heard a "thunk" and then i stopped. all it did was break the bond between the drum and the wheel, it didn't damage anything at all. not even a scratch in any of the holes on the rim. that was with a stock rim.

but before you do that, try to just use a rubber mallet or something and see if you can't knock it loose. that was an act of desparation which fortunately didn't end with me breaking anything.

oh yeah this should be in the Wheels/Tires forum.

Kick the crap out of the tire to knock the wheels loose. They've rusted to the drums.

    Exactly.
Kick the BeJeeezus out out the edge of the tire.
After it comes off, place a TINY dab of anti-sieze compound on each of the 4 rust spots, and wipe off any excess. Put it on the threads as well.
If you rotate your tires regularly, you'll never have the problem again.

I was kicking the living hell out of mine and it still wouldn't come off. But I imagine it was due to the fact that I was driving through flood waters and that sort of caused some excessive rusting.

Think of something that make you angry and kick the crap out of the top of the tire

Haha I'll probably be thinking about the friggin wheel itself. Thanks all, good thing I play soccer, huh. I'm in the midst of doing the SVT suspension swap, so yah, this should be in suspension/wheel and tire. I just removed the anti-roll bar while I was waiting on you highly technical advice. haha Wish me luck.

On some Foci, Ford put a 5th lug nut on the back side of the rim. It's right next to the strut bolt on the knuckle.

It's kind of tricky to find, but you should be able to see it if you look right behind the brake drum.

Ford did this just as an extra safety meassure to make sure that the wheels don't fall off during high speeds.

    Good one...
(For the naive, there are no knuckles or struts on the rear of a Focus, much less a 5th lug nut... )

If you look around the hub where it is rusted there are little notches that I just put a flathead screwdriver in there and gave it a pound or two and it popped them right off.

If anyone tries Jared's method, I must recommend that you leave at least two of the lug nuts on the studs, but lose enough to allow free movement of the wheel. That way there is no chance for the wheel to actually come off in the process and do some collateral damage.
