Thumbs up 225/50R16's fit!!

Welp... I got some new tires this weekend... I was sick of roasting the front end off the car in 2nd gear on the factory 205's...

Guess what? 225/50R16 fits on factory 16x6 wheels with no rubbing!! I've been 3-wheeling this car all over the place trying to get it to rub, and it just won't, not even the fender liners!! It might be able to touch the top fender lip if I ever made it to the bumpstops, but thats hard to do on the stock suspension, even on Michigan roads. I'll pull the springs out on one side and cycle the suspension to check one of these days.

I went with some Kumho Ecasta SPT's. With the factory backspacing, I can't even get my pinky finger between the strut and tire... talk about maximum usage of all available space. If the wheel would be even a half inch wider, they would rub the strut without more backspacing. Soon as I get permission from the wife, I'll order up a set of Rota's (w/ 40mm backspacing) and re-mount these tires on them instead. With a 6" wide wheel, you'd think the tires would be very pinched, but they actually work perfectly fine thanks to being a 50-series tire. I'll get the accelerometer out this weekend... I've got to be pulling nearly a full g on the stock suspension.

The car looks SICK with these meats on!!! The wheel-well's are actually full of tire for a change. I'll post pics later today after work.

I have a set of 16x7 40mm Rota's w/215/45's on them. If you want to mount them up to check them out, I wouldn't mind checking out your turbo set-up. I am at 22 & Hayes. My friend has a 2.3 ZX3 and I am telling him to get the FS turbo.

Holy s***! A fellow FJ'er so close! I just live over at 23 & Fairchild!!

We'll definately have to meet up this week. Hand's down, I have absolutely NOTHING bad to say about the FS turbo kit. I have driven some fast cars in my life, and this is one of the top 3. I'd love to try on those Rota's, too!

Just so you know, 225/50/16's on 16x7 rota slips with a 40mm backspacing DO RUB. I run svt suspension with kuhmo mx tires, and kuhmo usually does run alittle bigger than advertised, but even with svt gear, it rubs unless you get the fenders rolled like I did.

I'm sure they do. Its SO perfectly close on the stock wheels its amazing. For the Rota's, I'd probably fab some bumpstops to limit up-travel for the long term solution. Plus, its possible Rota's will work with the 45mm backspacing. .... off to get some pics for you guys.

Innitial testing... seems like they prefer 26-30 psi... for both longitudinal and lateral acceleration. Need to do more testing though.

Next thing is I need to do something with the brakes. I'm putting a hurt on these factory ST brakes with my repeated 130-70 slow-downs and bumper-bumper city driving.

I have to recomend against 130-70 slow downs on the street.

It irks me that you'd need better brakes BECAUSE you do that so often. Don't make a habit out of it. If you want speed, go to a racetrack. Stock calipers with upgraded pads and rotors will suffice fine.

Also, if your slamming on the brakes from 130mph, your probably boiling the brake fluid if you do it alot. Change the brake fluid with better stuff before you "GO TO THE TRACK" and your braking should improve.

Uhhh... holy cow... I definately don't do that crap on the street dude. Thats a great way to go to kill someone. One of my friend's family members owns an old country airport 20 miles from my house... about 3/8 mile of bumpy pavement including the service drive, but its not in use anymore, so we all get to go haul-ballz on it anytime. Sorry I gave the wrong impression. What did you think I meant when I mentioned "testing" and "accelerometer"?

The problem is that I have to really wail on the brakes to get down to semi-legal speeds before exiting the driveway. Combine a few 0-130-70 runs with my every day 80-mile commute through Detroit, and you have some nicely warped rotors every 20k miles.

Eh, I still think your fine with better stock rotors (brembo) and some good Hawk Pads and new, better fluid.

The bad braking your probably experiencing, besides the rotors, is the fact that the fluid probably boiled from a few repeated fast, hard stops. Once it boils, every next time it boils at a lower temperature. Long story short...after a while and a few hard stops you stomp on the brake and it doesn't stop that well. Boil=fade.

But hey, I got like 12,000 miles out of my last pads and rotors

Hell no Brian... neighbors would call the cops for sure. My Focus is loud enough... could you immagine 20 other people at the same time? Only way I get away with it now is cuz I have permission, and because its out in a rural county. Going to stay that way
