Default Bead leak repair? (PHOTOS!!)

Hey all. I've just acquired some used 16" 5 spokers and they have Azenis RT 215s on them that aren't quite to the wear bars. I'm in looooove with this set up! It's the only way to make my poor SPI any faster!

Anyway, I have a bead leak on one of the tires. I just took it to a local shop, we put some bead sealer on it, and it didn't work. The tire was put on with the bead sealer still wet, then inflated.

Is there any way for me to save this tire??? I highly doubt I could find another RT 215 (215/45-16) with similar wear or better, and I don't want to get a set of the newer version til these are used up.

What can I do???

Photos: (Don't mind the gunky bead sealer still on there!)

Oh, I just painted my side moldings and put them back on. Soooo much better!

I wouldn't bother....

I had purchased a set of used tires from a set of rims where the car slid into a curb and chunked one of the rims...

I thought I was all good to go, but the tire shop called and said 1 tire was not mountable... I went to the shop they showed me similar damage like yours, and I just replaced the tire since the car, and the value inside it (yourself, as the driver) are more important than saving $130 and a risking possibility of a blow-out.

That is damage from mounting/dismounting. The bead is damaged beyond repair. No amount of bead sealer is going to fix that.

Not news I wanna hear!! Oh well, you're right. I'll just wait til spring time to throw the new RT 615s on. However, I did clean up the "hang nails" a bit and had a couple opinions from people who think it should work. I'm gonna take it back to the shop for one more try. I'm not driving on the wheels now, so I can monitor the tire off the car to see if it works.

Hey auto focus, nice bikes!!! I'm riding on a Cervelo Dual at the moment. Looking for a higher end Cervelo frame to try out next season.

I work at discount tire and that tire is no good, and can not be fixed. It is either from not enough lube used when mounting or the tire abnormally dry rottting on the bead and becoming weak. I would jsut invest in a new tire. By the way about how old are the tires...look at the DOT number and let us know the last 4 digits. The first 2 of the last four are the week up to 52 and the last 2 are the last digits of the year they were made. If the last set of numbers consists of only 3 numbers then it was made in 1999 or ealier. A tire over 5 years old is no good according to DTC, and we will have nothing to do with it, the age could have a factor on the bead tearing like that...unless some huge bonehead installed them with no lube.

The DOT is 2903 so they're four years old. I'm gonna guess that it was some bonehead that did it during mounting/dismounting. By looking at the damage, it defiitely isn't rot.

The remaining three tires have good life left, and I don't want to throw a miss-matched tire in there with them, cuz I definitely want to use these up before replacing them with the RT 615s. And wouldn't you know, the RT 215 is discontinued....... I guess its off to craigslist.

Don't even think of using a tire you think MIGHT work. Not on the street, certainly not a competition tire. Jeez Louise. Don't give Darwanism a chance.
