Tires for Daily Driving

Most of the posts here are for performance and handling, I am looking for a tire that is on a car for daily driving. I want tread life over handling as this car is that a daily driver. Anyone got some suggestions?

The tire Ive found that suits the best is the Mastercraft (Cooper Tires) Avenger Touring LSR its listed as a 50-60K tire. with decent reviews as well

I wanted to see if there are any other recommendations for a touring/dd tire. Dont throw up performance tires as I put way too many miles on my car to look at them.

Also any reccomendations on where to get the best deal on the tire would be nice.. Tire Rack has the best deal on Dunlop I can find at 433.20 with RH

Tire Easy has the best price for the Mastercraft Tires.

Edit found a couple more Pirelli P6, Pirelli PZero Nero M&S, Dunlop Signature, and Goodyear Assurance

the oem Pirelli p6's are junk, they dont do anything particularly well, i didnt htink they were all that bad untill they were gone

I hear great things about the pzero neros, and almost just put a set on my car.
i opted for the BFG g-force supersport a/s and while i dont have that many miles on them yet im loving them so far

tirerack generally has some of the best prices ive seen

Tire life is really dependent on your driving conditions and what you put on. What you put on is also restricted by the tire size that you're replacing. Any wear ratings that are advertised are always "suggested", and many are hit-and-miss when it comes to achieving what is advertised.

For daily driving, I mainly use performance tires because I have another set for winter and mainly travel on highways. I average about 36,000 miles on a set.

For better input, what is the tire size you're looking at? Some of the tires out there that folks here may recommend may or may not be available for your application. So, you'd better post it

Check out the Yokohama YK520s. I ran them on past cars and love them. Well for Daily Drivers. I now run the S-Drives on my car now. There are alot of diffrent companys to pick from tire wise you just need to do research on the product.

Those Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S ARE THE Tire for Daily Driving.
They ARE Ultra High Performance All-Seasons.
I know you want mileage, and that you aren't Racing.
Don't forget that a Tire that Handles "Great" instead of "OK" is ALSO a Much Safer Tire.
My experience with the P Zero Nero M+S is Amazing.
I hit a large chunk of debris once while traveling down the interstate. Punctured the Left rear with a hole almost big enough for my pinkie finger. Prior to getting it repaired, I had to drive approximately 30 miles on the shoulder and in the slow lane. I averaged between 40 and 45 MPH. No Broken belts or tire disintegration.
I had it patch/plugged, remounted and balanced, (All at a Wal-Mart in a Small town), and the tire gave me another 15+K miles with no problems or vibration.
It's tough to top that.

The tire I am looking at is te stock 205 50 16

and ive looked at a lot of reviews now, and Right now im looking at the Dunlop Signature tire.. and I know the mileage listing is an estimate by the company the makes the tire and is also dependant on the driving, but its 1 thing I could look at.. The Signature is highly rated form what im finding, and slightly cheaper than the p Zero Nero M&S which has been hard to find... My problem id finding a place close that can mount ballance and allign...


As for driving conditions predominantly highway blacktop in Dallas, TX if anyone has other suggestions im open to them.

I am currently driving on a set of BfGoodrich Geforce Sports. Not a bad tire, I have almost 36k miles on them, and will need a new set soon. The only complaint I have, is the last 5k or so they have been really noisy. Other than that, they have performed great....and were not to expensive.

I have had them rotated every 5k....but only going front to back, the rotations don't do much. Just make sure your allignment is good and they should reward you with a long life (for sport tires).


P.S. If you do any kind of winter driving in the snow, or temps below freezing, stay away from these tires, and any sport tire in general. The tread pattern and rubber compound are just not designed for snow/ice, and low temps.

Anyone ever heard of Maxxis Tires? A local shop that has the rims I want only sell Maxxis tires but I can't seem to find reviews anywhere on them and I'm not going to trust a tire I don't know anything about

OR, Call 888-541-1777 Ext. 627 and talk to Roger at Tire Rack DIRECTLY.
Tires are a place to shop "Reasonably", but they are NOT a place to "Cheap Out" when that is the ONE Thing beyond YOU that will Save your A-Double-S in an Emergency.
If Tire Rack can't recommend a shop in Your area, do what I do anyway, and have them shipped to your house and take them somewhere. Tire Shops are a dime a dozen.
If the tires are unused, even Wal-Mart will do it.

Yes I know Tire rack carries them... I am looking for something local to have local RH like VR said.. and when I say hard to find I mean IN STOCK.. most tire shops carry the tires, but only carry 1 tire of 205 50 16 which usually runs close to 200 per tire... which for a daily driver imho is rediculous.
As for cheap out... I have not mentioned anything like the Kumho;s or sumitumo;s which are the Cheaping out..

That's Hilarious!
The last time I bought tires from Tire Rack, I had them mounted at the least expensive local BFGoodrich dealer I could find. (It was coincidence that they were a dealer in the brand that I had purchased).
All Tax, Shipping, Mounting and Balancing Included, I saved over $130 on the set of 4 BFGoodrich Traction TA-V's (205/50/16), INCLUDING the inflated rate for mounting tires not purchased through them. That's MORE than the cost of an entire tire, tax and shipping included.
Yes, they charge less for M&B, but they more than make up for it in what they charge for the tires.

MichaelXi's post brings up a good point: All reputable retailers need to survive (whether Tire Rack, local shops, chain shops, or dealerships). There are always advantages and disadvantages when dealing with ANY retailer. Aside from price, there's always service and other warm-fuzzy stuff.

Anyone looking at tires need to see what costs are involved i.e. the tire itself, mounting & balancing, and road hazard (if any). Thing is, if you're REALLY in a bind, then sometimes a more expensive option may be the best option. But as others have suggested, tires are the only thing that keep you on the road. Go as much as you can afford, and be educated in what you buy.

hutch....check craigslist. I bought a brand new set of 08 wheels and tires for 150. mounted and balanced still.

The guy I bought from had two sets, im sure one is gone.

If all you need is an a to b tire, then find stockers for cheap

Unfortunately, the price kills what you are after, but these are what I use:

Coming up on 40,000 miles on them and at about 5/8 of the tread depth. Driven on ice and snow with no huge complaints. Obviously studs would be better. High spirit drives in the mountains, commuting, AND they've survived about 9 rallyx events as well. On asphalt they are very, very stable, and have a fairly stiff sidewall. Very happy with the tires, although I bought an off-size to get a little more contact patch, and it ran me $30 more per tire over the stock size. But hell, I've put twice the mileage on these than the stock tires took. That's good enough for me.

I run on Bridgestone Potenza G009. Available in a range of sizes, and cost less than $100 per tire. My old set had 70K+, with still plenty of tread for another 8-10K more. I'm on my second set, excellent tire.

I Saved $130+ by buying from Tire Rack, AND paying the dealer's increased M&B charge. I'd hardly call that a small markup. (Yes, it is an accumulated savings across a set of 4 tires, but still...)
I have never purchased or needed "Road Hazard". If I have a flat, I get it Fixed, usually for less than $10. If the tire is damaged worse than can be Plug/Patched, I'll chalk it up as a loss. (It's not yet happened in 22+ years of driving). I guess it's like insurance, but if you don't use it, you're just paying alot of "Extra Expense" and I personally don't get any "Added Peace of Mind" from the thought of having it. If I HAD purchased Road Hazard across the years, I'm sure my expenses would've added up to many sets of tires by now.

I've used Road Hazard coverage on every set of tires I've owned in the last 6 years. At least once per set. The coverage on these Michelins only saved me 20 bucks because of the pro-rate thing they have, but just getting a nail in the outer most tread block is not fixable, and I find that crap happening a lot. Ever since the first time I used it, I've sworn to always have it.

I've saved a CRAPLOAD by buying my tires through Tire Rack. I've even checked local shops and they couldn't/wouldn't price match what Tire Rack sold me the tires for.

As for mounting, Tire Rack does have certified installers to use and the price is acceptable. Hell, for the tires I bought through TR for the wife's Tribute, I had them mounted and balanced at WalMart for....$40....for ALL FOUR!

Buying tires locally is STUPID since the markup compared to Tire Rack is incredibly high. The local shops are still getting pure labor cost out of you by mounting and balancing so they shouldn't balk at that part.

How did you calculate the $20?
IMO, it should be "Cost of RH for all 4" vs "What they pro-rated the tire as being worth" (Or the cost to fix it, which, unless you have sidewall or belt damage, is almost always possible).
Did you ACTUALLY save money?
Please explain how you arrived at $20.
At this point I'll reserve further comment, but IMO, RH is worth Much Less than what you pay for it.

im using Nitto Neo-Gens on my 205/50 R16 and i picked them up for 76 each locally i like them they handle pretty good and there pretty cheap. just a suggestion. if you buy tires from tr get them put on at wal-mart its its 3.50 to mount 5.00 to balance what some places charge to do that is absurd. good luck finding tires. btw where i work road hazzard is a rip off you would have to have 4 tires repaired during the life of the tires just to break even.
