Many companies powdercoat rotors for the same reason. It looks pretty badass, especially on slotted rotors. Your typical rustoleum will probably flake off after short time because the rotor gets very hot. You'll need some hi-temp paint. Post up some pics when you get finished. I've seen 'jetters use silver, but never black. Good luck

i painted my mustang rotors with high temp gray primer before i put them on last summer and they still look awesome to this day. no rust. i made multiple coats across the front and rear of the rotors to cover all surface area and also sprayed into the fins.

as soon as you drive the car it burns off the pad contact area within a few miles, just be careful during the period because the car does not stop well until it all burns off.

Are you nuts, you painted the entire rotor and then drove it to burn off the paint..WOW that's classic!!

Prettycar..don't do what he just said..paint only the area that does not come into contact with the pads.

painted surfaces don't shed heat very well, such as caliper paints. They look nice, but help retain heat like header wrap. IMO if it's a show car go for it, if it's not, i wouldn't do it.

well having an all black car, a rust ring is very much an eye soar and i am not too worried about and heat retention cause i dont run the car hard. just turned 80k, shes gettin old.

i masked them off and painted them last tuesday, they cam out great. i will prob. ull them off in a couple weeks and reapply on the areas i didnt paint. i could have waited longer to untape and install, the paint peeled alittle when i pulled off the tape. but its all good.

i used some kinda header or block paint, good up o like 1200 degrees or something. so it should be good.

Does anyone have any anti-rust solutions for the underbody?
I want to try to keep my car's bottom parts from rusting too badly in the Massachusetts winters.

That was MY First thought...
These are "Functional" Parts, NOT "Pretty Parts".
You don't put vaseline on your shoe soles, and you don't paint or lubricate your rotors.
The Hat.... Maybe.
You usually can't really see it anyway.
If you're talking about painting the flat side of your rotors except for the contact area, I'd have to say, "That's a New One.....??!!!??? ", but if all you do is cruise, and there is a gap between the paint and the contact area, I GUESS it would work,.... If that's cool to you or something...???

My 02 ZX3 has weathered multiple indiana winters with no rust at all underneath the car. I am thinking about some rubberized under coating, I figure 3 to 4 cans will do the inner fenders and under side of the car. At $20-$30 I see it being a good investment.

Painting the brake discs (not the portion that comes in contact with the actual pad) can help make things look a little "neater" or "cleaner". Instead of paint, though, why not try something a little different, and brush on some of that (gimmicky??? yes? no???) "rust converter paint"? I only say this because it's another, perhaps weird, option you can try out for the discs. Otherwise, for my discs, I painted the part that is near the wheel (that no one can really see, wow) with simple black charcoal grill paint. Lasted one Pennsylvania winter, then pretty much flaked off and is back to rust again. So be it.

I'm not sure you'll need the rubberized undercoating, but it'd be neat to see what it all looks like. As for me, I just rolled my fofo on ramps last year, took a wire brush to spots showing rust (that I could reach), then scrub, scrub, scrub-a-dee-dubbed away. Shot the bare spots over with rusty metal primer, then shot another layer of flat black paint, good to go.

Lastly, I remember reading waaay back in the day that that rubberized coating can actually (probably an Old Wives Tale, mind you) "trap moisture" and "cause rust". Credible? Reliable reporting? Nope; just something I heard--take it with a grain of salt.
