a 8.5 26et will sit at pretty much the same outer point but with a 235 or 245 there will be a LOT of extra meat beyond that tire and having seen a few RS kits there isn't THAT much space unless you have OEM RS fenders and not flares.
on a stock bodied car, you'd need to unfold the lips and roll/flare the hell out of them and run the car pretty high not to rub! you're talking a tire that is almost an 1" wider(or more depending on the tire) on EITHER side!!!

you'd have to be running pretty crazy camber to fit that in a Focus, RS flares/fenders or not.
WRC fenders would be a different story!
Now that information helps me understand a lot. I make all of my calculations based off of real rear RS quarters only. Pretty sure Random stated that he has his fenders cut fairly high, which would allow a more meaty tire.

Now the FJ SVT has 235/40-17's on a 17x7 wheel, so throwing 235's on a 17x8.5 26mm et should not be a problem in my mind.

i think you have no problem with RS rear.
to stretch a 235/40 you need a j10

Yes, and you're flares w/ the wrong size tire made it 'real close'.

lol

A big tire will fit w/ fender rolling, which is effectively just as 'close', if done correct, as the fake RS flares.

Your 1in taller wheel/tire combo, made everything super close, knock off an inch and drop the offset, work the fenders a bit more and you'll run just about anything you want.

Just an FYI, 255-40R17 is a 'shorter' tire(25in) than your 235-40R18(25.4in) setup, so you'll have room. Just make sure you have strut clearance.

I think you are missing the point mate. I don’t care about the overall height.

And no, I chose that tire before so there would be no wheel gap, there for it was not the wrong tire choice. Again choosing tire sizing is RELITAVE TO WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Great

Then maybe you know of some rims that look similar to the Volks CE28's that are 17x8? Like I asked on the first post?

Thanks,
Kyle

the shape of the tire changes when you pinch or stretch it over a wheel... so it's possible you wont have a problem on a 7" but on a 8.5" the tire will be more boxed and sit almost 1.5" further OUT!

again, on a stock body car, this is pretty much a no go.
with RS flares it's a matter of trying it out and seeing with the understanding you might not be able to make it work without some camber and cutting fenders and even shaving the back side of the flares down... if you have OEM RS fenders, you can always roll those!

I cut the fenders up 2.5" inches... then put the flares over..

I think I will stick with a 245/35/17 17x8 35-42 et.

What you think Mitch?

Not ce28n style, but work meister / ssr sp1.

I'm thinking et20 might be a bit much though...
