Default Ok. How should you paint a red lip on a wheel?

I'm getting kind of tired of my ST200's, and really want something to set off my car, and just a change in general.

After seeing a bunch of pictures, I'm gonna go with a dark gunmetal wheel/black wheel with a red pinstripe.

But how do you do it?

1) Paint wheels black. Mask off center, paint lip red (spray? or brush?)

2) Paint red lip (spray). Mask off red lip, paint black.

3) Paint wheels black. Take it to a pinstriper, and have them stripe the red in, and then clearcoat.

I understand the entire concept, I'm just not sure what the best order is.

Option 2
3 is good but only if you have excess cash to blow.

Paint the wheel black and mask off nothing. Then this...

I've tried two methods.

First was the one Shaun mentioned with vinyl. It works good, but if you ever have the tires pulled off the rim or repaired by a shop, the machine is gonna rip the vinyl off and you'll have to redo it.

The second was I actually brushed it on similar to pinstripper would do. That seemed to work as well. But its alittle more permanent...
Red vinyl

Pinstripped with paint(brushed on with caliper paint)

02: Did you mask it off or just freehand it? I have a pretty steady hand an a good amount of actual "art" painting experience.

I would like to go with paint I think. I've found that red striping thats just a tad wider than the decal stuff looks best.

You can pick what size decal you want. I just went with a thin stripe on the EAPs because thats the widest I could go without it looking weird with that style wheels. While the E1s actually have a little ridge or lip on the edge of the wheel I just painted the whole lip. EAP's dont have that lip.

And I did it free hand...
