SVT shift knobs-Who wants something different? - Page 3 - The Ford Focus Forum

So this is the deal, The knobs with the red stitching were what was holding up the whole works and he's still not sure when he'll see them.

It is a rather abnormal thing to order a bunch of shift knobs all at once so it's possible thet they had to be made for the order.

I told him to ship the black ones and we'll get the red ones shipped when they show up, he's waiting another day or two just in case and then the black ones at least will be en route.

The workers in the factory are refusing to stitch with red thread! They think it will promote rice-ism and they don't want to be a part of the problem.

For now yes, The guy thats getting them is having trouble getting them from Ford.

My guess is that the red stitched ones are from a limited production model and Ford UK does not have them readily available so they may be waiting for a production run to have them made.

Regardless they "should" show up eventually, probably, I hope

The black ones are physically on the way here now, this first batch is all spoken for.

I won't hold anyone to their order, if you change your mind I understand completely. I'm pretty sure I won't have much trouble moving them once they do show up.

Do you have good instructions on removing the old know or should I just go with the short throw and save myself a headache?

It's not real tough.

Just pop the boot out of the console and lift it up.

That gives you access to the bottom of the stock knob which has flats on it so you can loosen it with a wrench.

The boot is held on to the knob with a zip tie, just snip the old zip tie and remove the boot.

Then put the rubber grommet on to the shift shaft and reinstall the boot, this time the boot gets zip tied to the shift lever itself and the grommet keeps it from slipping down.

Once thats done you just screw the new knob on, then if the boots too low just slide the grommet higher to keeo the boot up.

On mine the top of the boot is actually inside the base of the shift knob.

If the knob isn't pointing exactly where you want it when it's tight just use some threadlock to keep it where you want it.

No idea on the red ones, the guy I got these from apparently is having a really tough time getting any of them.

So for now it's black stitched or nothing.
