Lighted 5 and 6 speed knobs!! - The Ford Focus Forum

They're here and they look nice, Lighted shift knobs for the SVT 6-speed and for 5-speed cars without reverse lockout.

You may be able to make it work in a car with reverse lockout but I can't promise anything.

They are $69.30 each plus shipping.

They include wiring and instructions, It appears that it's simply a matter of running the ground and then wiring power to the red wire for the red lighting or to the green wire for the green lighting.

I've only got a couple of each right now just to see how they sell and if they go well I'll get more.

I'm telling my parents they are buying me this for christmas

what's the thread pattern for them(the 6 speed ones)?

and this is perfect because I have a power wire running through my ST170 console to the power port in the rear, I'll just splice into that Although maybe not because then it'll probably be lit all the time....maybe I'll just wire in a switch. Or do you know of a good wire to tap into Steve? Thanks

I have no idea what the thread pattern is, it just fits.

For power you could do it any way you like, I was browsing the instructions and they have you tapping into the radio illumination wiring.

One guy mentioned wiring into the shift light of an aftermarket tach so it lights up the shift knob when it's time to shift.

There is no thread pattern to the knob as it cuts its own when screwed to the lever

what color does the 5spd knob light up as? one pic looks yellow, the other looks almost pink? I'd prefer a blue or white if available.

you could probably swap the lights if they're LEDs though, if you can get to them without destroying the knob

No, it means the metal threads on your shift lever make their own thread in the plastic of the shift knob.

You will still be able to go back to your old knob any time.

Red or Green, I suppose the lighting used when those pics were taken affected the color in the pics.

Hey Steve, can you take a pic of the 6 Speed one installed? I'd like to see how that looks with the silver HVAC buttons. I'm deciding on one of these, or just the all black one of the other style.

I don't have any way to do that, sorry.

I've got the black leather one in my car and it's staying there, Perhaps someone will post up after installing one.

Bah, thats ok. I just had a cool idea about the lighting, hook up the green wire to the lights somehow so when you turn the lights on, they come on Green. Now....I'm not done there....I also have a Stewart Warner digital RPM gauge with LED shift light (Black, with Red Lights) Hook up the red wire for the red lights on the knob to the shift light, so when the shift light lights up red, so does the shift knob.

Ok, go ahead and laugh......Just sharing my little ricer moment......

I don't think it's a bad idea at all, I'm not sure how it would work though since the green would still be on.

I do think the red light hooked to a shift light is cool.

Who in the world would be looking at their shift knob when its time to shift? Shift lights are supposed to be bright and in your face. That way you dont have to take your eyes off the road to know when to shift.

Just in case you forget the gear pattern?

Personally I never found a need for a shift light either, just mount the tach where you can see it.

My dads got a shift light in his Healey and I can't see it at all when I'm driving.

If its not mounted on top of the windshield of course your not going to see the light Steve

When I drive my dads car I look over the windshield, Heck I even looked over the windshield when it had a full height windshield on it.

The problem with his is the shift light gets blocked by the steering wheel from my angle.

It's not a real comfortable car to drive.
