Default Removing AC

Hey all, I'm toying with the idea of removing my AC. I NEVER use it, but I've always wanted it in the car for resale value.

I'm going to start trying to clean-up the engine bay, get better cooling to my radiator and engine. I might put a pusher fan in front of the radiator and hook that up to my high fans. I'm not sure yet.

Here are the questions I have for those who have done it, or who might have an opinion of it.
  1. Should I ?
  2. How adversely do you think the lack of an AC will hurt my resale value (basically turbo SVT with AC vs turbo SVT without AC)
  3. How difficult is it to remove
  4. How difficult is it to put back on if I ever feel I want to?

Thanks all for the help!

It's a bit of a pain...but it'll go right back in if you keep all the parts. You would want to make sure that the evaporator holes are caapped/plugged tightly to prevent contamination...really all the holes in all the components if you're planning on using them again.

I can evacuate it for you if you want...lemme know.

1) Yes, you'll be removing about 40#s of dead weight and removing an accessory pulley that's just causes drag.

2) IMO, resale value of the car is already shot b/c of all the modification done to it so you'd be looking at getting the most money through a private sale rather then a dealer trade in. in which case, the new buyer probably won't care that it has no A/C since it's turboed and fast LOL

3) I can't imagine that hard, can't be any worse then just making sure you get all teh parts out, finding the right belt length and what not. prolly a hassle more then a problem.

4) according to my haynes manual...installation is reverse of removal so as long as you don't lose any parts, nuts bolts, washers, hoses and don't damage anything upon removal or storage, putting it back in can't be too hard. just don't lose anything.

I've heard it's fairly difficult to remove AC

That would be great Joe!!! And I still want the Pectel if you haven't already done something with it. I'm just finding the funds!

Thanks DisrupTer.. just needed to hear someone else echo the thoughts I was kind of already having.

it's really not that much of a pain, especially if ur not going to re-use it. I did mine bout 2 hours, it was messing though. just make sure u have the right size belt first.
