Default Question about 2000 zetec

Hey everyone I have a quick question. My father in law is working on someones 2000 focus sedan. It has the 2.0 zetec engine and sometimes the vehicle will not crank. It will just sit there and not do anything.

Now my father in law is a ford mechanic, has been for thirty years, and is doing this fix up as a side job. He said that he contacted Ford and there isn't any type of recall that they have pulled up for this issue. So he asked me to come onto this board and ask the focus community if they had any insights.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Manual or automatic?

I know some of the autos had a problem with the Parking position sensor or something like that. My mom's had that problem where you had to push the lever a little farther up towards the Park position to get it to start. Very intermittent and a pain in the ass to diagnosis.

similar thing happened to mine two years ago (before I owned it). A ground had a poor connection, so sometimes it would crank, sometimes it wouldn't. Took those oh-so-skilled techs at Canadian Tire about 20 mins to fix it. It's held up so far.

Check also the positive wire that is held down by a nut on the positive lug (not the wire that is a part of the lug), if it is loose or is corroded the car won't start.
