Default There is hope for N/A Zetec's

This could be a re-post but it cant hurt.

I was doing some research for some things and ran across some beautiful engines;

There is a lot of good write ups about the zetec engine, for anyone that did't know. Just do some google searchs!

A lot of cool stuff here, take a look; www.raceline.co.uk

Cheers,

Kyle

Yeah, its all out there, unfortunately, most of those items are designed for a RWD application and won't fit a Focus without extensive firewall modification.

Little confused... All the internals will work, throttle bodies, pretty much everything but the trans and mounting.

Are you sure? Thats what the whole "serious firewall mods" is about.

The last pic, the red engine, those TB's would just maybe fit.

The other 2 the ends of the trumpets would be someplace under the dashboard.

Those are beautiful engines! I always like seeing velocity stack arrangements. Serious high end power potential. Thanks, even if they are just too much work to make them fit our cars.

^ none of those look European to me. Europe gets slightly different versions than we do, most with VCT and other stuff....

Anyone in the states can make their zetec look like that with the right amount of money...

High power NA zetecs have always been doable. However, for the money involved, unless its is primarily a track car, it isn' worth it. Building a 200 whp NA zetec is not as hard as a lot of people seem to think (good mani, 11:1+ and some gnarly cams) it just isn't practical. The power will be wicked high rpm for a zetec (think 7600+) and you'd need a fully built engine to handle the compression and high rpm (big $$) . As for the ITB's....you can make'm fit without the velocity stacks. Most people chose to boost, because for around $3.5-4k you can make 200+ whp without any other mods.

I wonder if it would be possible to tilt the engine a few degrees forward and gain some rear firewall clearance for the ITBs? Those motor mounts would probably be expensive...

ah get off your high horse, it was a joke. You can make decent power NA on a zetec but its just not practical. When you make a 250 whp NA zetec that can be daily driven then i will admit defeat until then........ i dont see a point.

Why is everyone so afraid of modifying the firewall?

Cut a hole, build an airbox and pull air from the cowl area or someplace else.

People have been cutting up these cars for years, I don't see any reason to stop at the firewall.

I saw an old Mini at the track a few years ago with a supercharger on it and the way it was mounted the guy had cut a hole in the firewall and there was a big honking Weber carb coming through the dashboard.

Granted, the way he had it set up a backfire would burn all the hair off the side of your head.

The only thing stopping someone from installing a setup like that in a Focus is lack of imagination.

Get some custom mounts... clock the engine a little bit and booyah.

Like you said. Lack of imagination... and money.

that car is totally badass...... but still you can see even with itb's he only made 200 whp, which is incredible for a NA 2.0L. That thing is probably super fast espcially since its barely over 2100lbs
