Some jack ass lost a chair apparently and I couldn't avoid doing anything more than save the tire from a large chunk of wood, which I heard loudly hit the underside of the car. Got to work and inspected the underside and CV boots, no apparent damage at all, but while under there noticed some of the components have a very distinct rust color. Car is a 2014 in service since June '14.

Despite a generalized hatred of rust, items like that which won't be affected enough to cause issues in a lifetime are exempt.

Normal use in a possibly wetter environment, the thicker steel or iron parts get no rust protection like thin steel panels, the OEM won't spend the money on it.
