Today my gauges turned off while driving like it had been turned off. Car was still running barely though. Only the traction control light and the abs light were on. Not sure where to start. Car is a 2004 svt with 177k.

I had a similar issue happen to me this morning, about .25 miles from work and my gauges sweep and stop to the right and a couple lights came on. My radio went out also, and sounded like it had some sort of interference. I made it to work, and the car even cranked back up and the radio came back on, but still no gauges (as in needle movement, backlight is still on).

I'm going to start with my fuses and battery terminals, then alternator. I'll let you know when I find my issue.

Hooray for bumping old post..... didn't realize this was from 2013.

Ok, so to be clear. Is your problem with the needles working or the backlight going out?

From a few post I've found, it appears like:

Needle issues stem from:
-Bad battery
-Bad battery connections
-Bad alternator connections
-Vehicle speed sensor issues

Backlight issues stem from:
-Blown bulbs
-Bad connection on gauges (simple to remove)
-Bad light control switch, from my understanding the headlight control switch?

My issue appears to be the voltage regulator. My alternator is putting out 16.5+ volts.
