Hey guys. So this weekend I plan to hit the junkyard for a couple of odds and ends parts but one thing I have been considering in the back of my mind is converting to an SVT intake manifold. Now ultimately at bare minimum if I find an SVT I want to snag the lower plentum if it has it so if buy a topspeed intake it will work.
However like I said I've entertaining the idea of a complete IM swap. So my question is what ALL would I need off the car to make it work on my standard zetec?

The end result is not worth actually figuring out everything you'd need. You'd be better off doing an entire SVT swap because you'd need the harness and ECU. I guess if you wanted to run a TS intake, you could grab the small half of the intake, but even then, there are other solutions out there already for the Zetec. Plus, any big, free-flowing IM wouldn't do you any good unless you had the head to make use of it.

Well I see your point but would it help to clarify that I am running a t3/t4 turbo at 10 psi daily. Looking for a little more flow. The stock heads will handle just fine for now. When I get north of 300 whp them I'll start thinking of head work.

You can do it, but the IM ports wont match the zetec head. Theyre close, but not exact. It will require either notching the bolt holes on the lower portion (can't remember if this is possible), or "port matching" the lower portion.

As far as using the 2 stages of the intake, you'll have to choose long or short runner and wire the lever into position if you do not plan on using the SVT ecm.

I talked to TS about their IM and asked what else do I need for it to actually attach to the head and they told me a lower SVT manifold will bolt right on. They didnt say anything about having to "make it fit."

Apart from new gaskets, you wouldn't need much. A VCT delete and perhaps some new silicone connectors and clamps for the manifold. You can use an RPM window switch to flip the IMRC for you. Setting it to flip over to short runners right as your turbo hits peak boost would give you the best gains.

Ok. sounds fairly simple. Has anyone done a right up on a conversion? Where can I get an RPM window switch? How do I delete the VCT.

VCT is variable cam timing, you don't have it and it has nothing to do with the intake

No, in a FI application, the svt upper likes to loose the rubber seals where the short and long runners come together. Then they get lodged in the ports on the head. Chris earls has pics of this. Jim made him a ts style intake and I'm pretty sure he went from around 380-390 to 420whp. Messing with the runner control would be more hassle than its worth. Back in the day 2004? Someone did an svt IM on an near stock zetec. I think they gained 10-12 whp and there was very little difference between the 2 runner lengths. If you were going to do anythkng with it I would try and open the im remove the long runner assymbly all togeather.

Starting to sound like its not worth my time. Is removing the long runner even possible? Now let me ask this, what would a bigger TB and stock IM do for me?

I've also seen somewhere some hype about a 2000 IM doing something. Whats that about?

The 2000 doesn't really gain but a few hp peak. However, when ported and used with a 65mm tb its worth about 10-15 hp after the 5800 rpm peak. Meaning the power doesn't drop off as hard up top.

That would be me.

I can't recall if it was 1 run or 2 on the short runner. But as you can see you can't tell the difference on a dyno.
It's the combination of VCT and DSI that works on a SVT. Loose 1 and you may as well loose both.

There is the misalignment in stock form.
But I ran that way for a few years with no problems. It's also the setup I had for the above dyno.



Now I'm on a worked over SVT head and FRIM. Well worth the effort. But this dyno is still on the SVT intake manifold and stock SVT intake.
